Dialect differences
Both JSON and HTML are file formats, so what differs below is how each one chooses to represent a value.
| Property | in JSON | in HTML |
|---|---|---|
| identifiers | Double quotes; backslash escapes | Attribute values in quotes; entities for reserved characters |
| dates | No date type: dates arrive as strings and the reader must p... | Whatever text was rendered |
| binary | Not supported natively - base64 inside a string | data: URIs inside src attributes |
| separator | Braces and commas | Tags, not delimiters |
| encoding | UTF-8 by definition | Declared in a meta charset tag or the HTTP header |
| typing | string, number, boolean, null, object, array - no date type | None |
| shape | Nested objects and arrays | Free form; tables are row/column structures inside markup |
| ceiling | Whole document is usually parsed into memory | No formal limit |
