Batch Image Converter 2.3 Released: No ImageMagick, PDF In and Out, Headless Task Runs

October 31, 2026 — Withdata Software announces Batch Image Converter 2.3, the image batch converter for Windows, Linux and macOS. This release removes the program’s last external dependency: decoding and encoding are now built into the executable, so nothing has to be installed alongside it. It also adds PDF in both directions — one image per PDF page, or a folder of images assembled into one PDF — eight more output formats, headless runs of a saved task, and a task manager for the last fifty jobs.

What’s New in Batch Image Converter 2.3

1. No More ImageMagick

Until now the converter leaned on ImageMagick for the actual decoding and encoding, which meant a second download, a PATH that had to be right, and a failure mode that surfaced as “cannot convert” on a machine where everything looked installed. 2.3 carries its own codecs. The program is one file, it works offline, and it starts on a clean Windows, Linux or macOS machine without anything else being present.

2. PDF In, PDF Out

Two new jobs close the loop with the documents people actually receive. Convert PDFs to Images writes one image per page — useful when a scanned contract has to become pages you can mark up, or when a slide deck has to go into a report as pictures. Convert Images to PDF goes the other way: a folder of JPEGs, PNGs or TIFFs becomes a single PDF, one page per image, in the order the file list shows.

3. Eight More Output Formats

PNG is no longer one thing. 2.3 can write png8 (a palette file, smallest), png00 (keep whatever the source was), png24, png32 (with alpha), png48 and png64 (16 bits per channel), plus bmp2 and bmp3 for the two BMP depths older tools still expect. Choosing the right one is the difference between a 40 KB and a 4 MB file for the same picture.

4. The Same Executable Runs a Saved Task

A task saved from the window can now be replayed without the window:

BatchImageConverter.exe task="resize-for-web.cit"

That is the piece that makes the converter usable from a build script, a cron job or a scheduled task — the same configuration, the same output, no clicking.

5. Scheduled Tasks, Without a Console Window

Tools → Scheduled Tasks launches the bundled TaskScheduler.exe, which registers a saved task with the operating system’s scheduler. It runs detached, so the black console window that used to flash on every scheduled run is gone.

6. Task Manager and the Last Fifty Tasks

Every run leaves its task behind, and the last fifty are now listed in one place: reopen one, rerun it, or delete the ones that have outlived their purpose. Task files written by earlier versions are imported automatically, so an upgrade does not lose the jobs someone has been using for years.

7. Faster RAW, and Stop That Stops

RAW conversion is quicker because the decode step no longer makes a round trip through an external process, and Stop now interrupts the file being worked on instead of waiting for the queue to drain — which matters when the queue is a thousand holiday photos and the discovery is that the resize was set to the wrong percentage.
