September 14, 2026 — Withdata Software announces FileToDB 3.6, a cross-platform desktop tool for importing files into databases. This release adds importing data from fixed-width text files and from YAML files.
What’s New in FileToDB 3.6
1. Import Fixed-Width Text Files
Fixed-width files are still produced by many legacy systems, mainframes and export tools, and they are awkward to load because the columns are defined by position, not by a separator. FileToDB 3.6 reads them directly: the column widths are detected from the data, and you can adjust every width before importing, so the rows are split into the right columns.
2. Import YAML Files
FileToDB can now load tabular data from YAML as well. It handles the common top-level shapes — a list of mappings (each mapping is one record), a mapping whose values are lists (column-oriented), and a single mapping of scalar values — and nested mappings are flattened into dotted column names, such as meta.vip. Block scalars, comments and flow-style values are supported, and large flat files are streamed in chunks to keep memory low.
