Fixed-Width Text, Both Ways

DBLoader can now import data from fixed-width text files — the column widths are detected from the data and can be adjusted before importing. It can also export to fixed-width text, again with widths detected from the data and editable, so the output lines up exactly the way a legacy system or mainframe expects.

2. YAML, Both Ways

On the import side, DBLoader reads the common YAML shapes: a list of mappings (each mapping is one record), a mapping whose values are lists (column-oriented), and a single mapping of scalar values. Nested mappings are flattened into dotted column names such as
meta.vip
, and large flat files are streamed in chunks to keep memory low.

On the export side, you control the encoding, the indent, and block vs. flow style, and flattened columns can be written back as nested mappings. Values that contain line breaks become literal block scalars, and reading the file back gives the same columns and values.

3. Options / Output Settings & Table Filter

A new “Options / Output Settings” page collects the settings in one place, and the log filter and the finish notification are kept for the next run.

A table filter now sits above the database object tree, so a large database is easy to search.

About DBLoader

DBLoader imports files into databases and exports databases to files — fast and locally, without coding.

Both directions in one tool: file to database, and database to file

File formats: CSV, TSV, TXT, fixed-width text, Excel, JSON, XML, HTML table, YAML and SQL

Databases: MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, DB2, SQLite, Access, Redshift, Azure SQL, MariaDB, Percona, DBF and more

1 file to 1 table, 1 file to N tables, N files to N tables; insert, update and upsert (including multi-column keys)

Field mapping and preview; save and load sessions; table filter

Batch processing, command line, and scheduled tasks for automation

Cross-platform: Windows, Linux, macOS

Fully local offline processing; no data uploaded to cloud servers

Upgrade Today

DBLoader 3.6 is ready for download: https://www.withdata.com/db-loader/download.html.
