YAML Splitting — Notes

How to Split a YAML File (4 Steps)

  1. Open Withdata DataFileSplitter and load the YAML file.
  2. Choose the split mode: by object count (how many records go into each file) or by column value (which column decides the groups).
  3. Check the preview, then choose the output folder and the file name pattern. The header is kept in every file.
  4. Click Split — the smaller YAML files are written in seconds. Save the session if you want to run it again from the command line.

Split YAML File in GUI

In GUI mode the split is a step-by-step wizard: load the file, choose the split mode, check the preview, choose the output folder, and click Split. See Withdata DataFileSplitter.

Set scheduled tasks for splitting YAML files

After splitting a YAML file in the command line, you can schedule and automate it:

  1. Save the session and create a .bat (Windows) or .sh (Linux/macOS) file for the split.
  2. Set a scheduled task: on Linux/macOS use crontab; on Windows use the Task Scheduler.
