Video: Convert Excel file to JSON file without coding
This video shows how to convert Excel file to JSON file without coding with Withdata DataFileConverter, or with the free Excel to JSON online tool. It covers the Excel side and the JSON side.
Convert Excel to JSON: what this does
This shows how to turn an Excel workbook into JSON — useful when a spreadsheet is the source of truth but an application, API or web page needs JSON. The video above is the full flow.
Steps
Open Withdata DataFileConverter and pick the Excel file.
Choose JSON as the output format.
Pick the worksheet to convert (and whether the first row holds the column names).
Decide how cells are written (numbers and dates as values, or everything as text).
Run the conversion.
Excel to JSON: details worth knowing
Header row. By default the first row becomes the JSON keys; turn that off if the sheet has no header.
Multiple sheets. A workbook can hold many worksheets — convert them one at a time, or write them as separate JSON files.
Cell types. Numeric cells become JSON numbers and date cells become date strings; if a column mixes text and numbers, force it to text to keep the shape consistent.
Formulas. Formula cells are written as their computed values, not the formula.
Empty cells. Choose whether an empty cell becomes null, an empty string, or is omitted — downstream code often depends on it.
FAQ
Can I convert a specific sheet?
Yes — pick the worksheet; extra sheets are ignored unless you convert them separately.
Do formulas survive?
The computed value is exported, not the formula.
Why are some numbers quoted?
Mixed text/number columns are written as text so the JSON type stays consistent.
