FileToMongo 5.1 Released: Fixed-Width and YAML Import, Collection Filter

September 21, 2026 — Withdata Software announces FileToMongo 5.1, a cross-platform desktop tool that imports files into MongoDB without coding. This release adds importing from fixed-width text files and YAML files, a collection filter above the database object tree, and remembers the output window settings across restarts.

What’s New in FileToMongo 5.1

1. Import Data from Fixed-Width Text Files

Not every data file comes as CSV. Fixed-width text files — where each column is defined by a character position instead of a delimiter — are still common in exports from banking, telecom, government and legacy/mainframe systems. Until now you had to convert them to a delimited format before importing.

FileToMongo 5.1 reads fixed-width text files directly. Point it at the file and the columns are split by their positions, so each line becomes a MongoDB document just like a CSV import — no pre-processing, no scripting.

2. Import Data from YAML Files

YAML is now a supported source format. You can import YAML files into a MongoDB collection with the same automatic field mapping, insert/upsert and batch options as the other formats. This is handy for configuration-driven data and machine-generated exports.

3. Collection Filter Above the Database Object Tree

Databases with hundreds or thousands of collections are hard to navigate. A new filter box sits above the database object tree: type a few characters and the tree narrows to the matching databases and collections instantly. Opening the collection you need no longer means scrolling and expanding node after node.

4. Output Window Settings Are Remembered

The output/log window keeps your settings across restarts: the log filter and the “notify me when finished” switch are saved and restored the next time you open FileToMongo. Set it once and it stays the way you like it.
